These amazing glass vessels are all designed by Rich, but made by hand with the help of Morgan. Each vessel is signed by Rich and dated. All are about 12" tall, unless otherwise noted. Long before we blew glass, beat metal, formed clay, or carved wood, we had to find our vessels in nature. What a rare occasion that must have been. It is that feeling that informs these Urzeitlich Vessels. Well-used, strongly loved, held close, parted dearly. To create this look, Rich applies both copper and highly reductive glass colors to the surface of the vessel. By choking back the oxygen in the flames, Rich brings out the pure metals in the colored glass, which then coat the surface with a brilliant, iridescent sheen. The copper is another story altogether. As Rich slowly grinds, he decides how much copper to take away, which allows him to leave black, earthy red, or shiny copper on the surface. Or he can grind all the way through the copper to the colored glass he's hidden underneath, giving it a fascinating texture. UVI4: $210 Earthier tones, and some patina on the copper bottom, this fat shape is complemented nicely by the small hole. |
UVI5: $150 Softened earth tones and an eroded section make this a very interesting piece. Here's the back, and here's a close-up of the copper. |
UVI6: $105 This piece is heavy, and looks it. The hole seems to sink inside the vessel. |

UVI8: $210 Brighter earth tones with an exceptional eroded section of copper. Here and here are close-ups of the copper detail. |
UVI12: $210 Really cool bumpy texture on this one, as well as really cool color. Here's a closer shot of the copper bottom. |
UVI17: $350 The picture here is a little deceiving, as this is definitely bigger than the others pictured. The texture, visual and tactile, is amazing. And I love the shape. And the copper. Here's the other side, and here and here are pics of the copper. Did I mention the copper? |
